The manufacturer of solar trackers installs its PV structures on a plot that the association owns in the surroundings of Pamplona
Pamplona (Spain), December 2019 – ARRAY STI Norland and the Association of the Industry of the Spanish region of Navarre (AIN) have reached an agreement to strengthen the collaboration for energy research between these two entities by installing a pilot plant that enables testing tracker structures.
ARRAY STI Norland supplies solar trackers to energy developers and is currently developing new versions that keep increasing efficiency. The rise of renewable energy is related to the reduction of costs in manufacturing and installation and requires the development of an increasingly efficient and durable solar structure.
To meet this challenge, ARRAY STI Norland, with 23 years of experience and dedicated to the design, manufacture and supply of solar trackers and fixed structures, is developing a new generation of trackers that incorporate, among other innovations, new solar panel technologies and artificial intelligence for more efficient control of solar parks, maximizing energy generation.
United for applied R&D
In order to carry out these activities, ARRAY STI Norland teamed up with AIN, a private technology center that makes available to companies a solid technological offer adapted to the needs of the industrial sector. AIN’s working group currently involved in this collaboration is Measurement, Control and Communications (MCC) that provides its technological services and the promotion of R&D projects in the Mechatronics line.
Currently, ARRAY STI Norland and AIN are working together within the project called Control Solar, whose main objective is the development of a new electronic control system and its wireless communications. This project is funded by the Government of Navarra and its completion date is scheduled for April 2020.
After the completion of this project, the goal for these two organizations is to keep researching together. With this partnership, ARRAY STI Norland and AIN will face the development of new solar products that optimize the performance of solar plants through the application of new sensors, the advanced analysis of data, and the generation of new control algorithms.
Commitment to renewables
The solar trackers and their auxiliary systems -the weather station and the wireless communications control- have been installed on an AIN-owned plot located in Cordovilla, less than 2 miles from Pamplona. This facility will serve as an energy laboratory and a pilot plant in which to test the new devices and algorithms that are being developed. In addition, the energy generated will cover part of the electricity needs of AIN facilities.
