Realistic Parameters for Bifacial Modeling

Accurately modeling the rear-side performance of bifacial PV systems is critical for setting trustworthy expectations with developers and investors. This tech brief outlines realistic structure shading and backside mismatch loss factors for 1MIP and 2MIP tracking configurations, using detailed 3D ray-tracing simulations from PV Lighthouse validated by in-field data from CFV Labs. The results—validated to within 0.3% accuracy—offer more reliable, project-ready values than generic software defaults, helping utility-scale solar projects optimize performance with greater confidence when using ARRAY tracker systems.
